I'm here to offer another view on the beautiful game of football. Let's start with a fantastic goal by zlatan ibrahimovic!
(wow he still is such a dbag tho...wtf is up with the feather tattoo ibra, who are you?? Prince)
An incredible strike to cement a 4 - 2 drubbing of England, gaining their seventh win vs their rivals since 1932. In the same stretch of time, England have only won 8, revealing their futility on the national stage. Since the 1930's, England has only won the world cup once. In the same period of time Germany and Italy have won the cup 3 and 4 times respectively. In fact, their best finish, other then their one win, has been a semi-final appearance and that was in 1990. Germany, or Brazil, has made the final four of every world cup and with the resurgence of Spain as a dominant footballing nation, England's chances for another world cup seem slim to none. England are ranked sixth in the fifa rankings and with young, hungry up-and-coming teams such as Russia, Croatia, and Belgium who are all looking to become the new european powers of football.
So how did this happen, how does the nation with the so called, "best domestic league" produce the worst national football. I believe the answer lies in how many foreign players play in the English Premier League. Foreign players make up 65% of the Premier League teams each year, according to transfermarkt.co.uk. Compare that to the German Bundesliga, whose national side is flush with young domestic talent, which fields only 48% and Spain, with only 37%. It becomes obvious that the influx of foreign players into the English League has destroyed the youth system. There is no need to spend money on the youth academy of your team, when you can fly down to Argentina or Brazil and pluck some young talent out of a domestic team for 20 million or so. This is exactly the move Chelsea pulled with their purchase of Oscar. When your owner is a Russian billionaire, or an arab sheik, or an asian computer tech genius, there is no need or desire to build your team the old fashioned way, through the youth system and discovery of domestic talent.
Im not criticizing the English League for their success, more just pointing the obvious fact that most England fans overlook. That your Red Devils, Gunners, Spurs, the Reds, the Skyblues, Swans, and even your Toffees, are killing your national team development. I love that we get to watch Aguero, Silva, and Toure, square up to Mata, Hazard, and Torres. However, its also intriguing to watch the likes of Gotze, Bender, Reus, go up against Iniesta, Xavi, and Busquets, all homegrown domestic talent, as I hope this Champions League final will produce. Either way, I love how the game of football is developing, the level of competition and talent is extreme. I hope one day our own domestic league, the MLS, is able to become as talented and exciting. ( tho judging from our last russian fiasco, its seems our national team is still lightyears away from the competition. )
